Gliding flight in mammals has evolved independently in several independently in several lineages of rodents, in Dermoptera, and in three lineages of marsupials. Gliding mammals range from temperate woodlands to tropical rainforests. The volume provides an appropriate coverage of placental and marsupial gliding species.
